Rex,
In regards to your comments
about the American company that is going to build a resort there in
Guiuan. I am wondering if your comments where against Americans? You say
that the disadvantages to the locals is that the American firms will
hire the top positions from the USA, Manila, Cebu, etc. Is this any
different then what the companies that are investing in Subic Bay (SBMA)
are doing? Do you think that Hanjin (a Korean Comapny) hired top
positions to local Filipinos to run their shipyard there? What of other
companies like FedEx, companies from the UK, Japan, China, etc.? What do
you think they are doing?
As an American, I take your
comments as off the wall and in poor judgment towards Americans.
This comment you made, "Samar
folks will then remain as gardeners, cleaners, night dancers or other
positions that does not need the total use of brains." just shows me you
have no idea what you are talking about. If I was a Filipino, I would
take offense to your statement here. Filipinos are NOT, repeat NOT
stupid as you stated.
I think maybe you need to do
some research on the Philippines to have an understanding of the
culture, the problems, etc. Most Filipino families, which are very large
compared to say a family in the US, are poor. They live off the land or
sea and struggle daily to put food on the table. Filipinos from Samar
mostly fits into this category. They can not afford to send their
children to college or even completing high school. So you see there
Rex, there are many factors that come into play.
This statement is very true.
"The environmental protection of the island can also be at stake once
hundreds of thousands of tourists marches to Calicoan". But I'll ask you
this question. How often to you go to Samar to visit? Have you ever seen
how much trash, plastic is all over the island? In my last visit last
year, I was sadden to see on Sto Niño island for example how much
plastic trash is all over the island behind houses, on paths from bagy
to bagy. It was also floating all around the island. You say that this
new attraction for tourist will create environmental problems. They are
all ready there and NO ONE is doing anything about it now.
Again, where are you coming
from with this statement? "Is the Samar government prepared to meet such
challenges or do they rejoice of the plans as this American firm is a
solid milking cow". Of course ANY local Gov't in the Philippines will be
happy if a foreign comapny comes in and invests in their town. Wouldn't
you? The bottom line is this in case you did not know. Samar is the
poorest Province in the Philippines. I for one have seen how much
Calbayog City has change since my first visit in 1981. Samar is trying
to grow and become a place for investments. But if the Philippine
government continues to look else where in the Philippines and NOT
invest or spend monies in Samar, then it will NEVER match places like
Cebu, Subic Bay, etc. The main road is a great example of how the Gov't
is FAILING Samar.

Troy---the fake waray!
You are indeed an expert in
washing your own hand ala Pontius Pilate in public appealing for some
sympathy votes with your perfect try to look decent and honorable before
this message board. You wanted me to simply just accept you
wholeheartedly and give you accolades for your concern of our island.
Calling my comments delusional
is delusional in itself. So, who is having delusions now when it was you
who was dreaming to be a waray when you are not. Talking down on people
who are corrupt and at the same time colluding with them to benefit from
the graft and corruption going on in Samar.
Do not lecture me about the
original inhabitants of the Philippine archipelago because your
presentation though seem believable is bereft of factual and logical
sense. When the Spaniards came to the Philippines, the existing
barangays especially those along the seashores were of people belonging
to the Malayan race. When Magellan declared that the archipelago would
now become Las Islas Filipinas, he was referring to those people whom he
saw in Limasawa in Samar or Masau in Butuan (wherever the National
Historical Institute decides), Homonhon in Southern Leyte, Sugbu or Cebu,
and Mactan. He was not referring to the negritos living in the
hinterlands of Negros, Panay, Luzon, Palawan, and other islands.
When the Europeans came to
America particularly the United States, there were already indian
nations thriving like the Cherokees, Apaches, and others. Now, here's
the twist---the big twist---look at the Philippines right now, you still
could see that the majority of Filipinos have malayan features... the
Americans? Do you have the red-skinned features among the majority of
your "full-blooded Americans?"
Now, that is the difference
and that is a big difference Troy. So trying to use parallelism might
not work in your favor because your presentation, as I've said, may be
pseudo-believable but it is bereft with merit. And as to your stupid
question as to "who makes the decision who can call themselves
whatever," please don't beg me to verbally spank you with examples that
would seal your coffin. Could I merely call myself a Russian even if I
am not of russian origin just because I want to? Could you call chinese
people your fellow chinese even if your eyes are bigger and wider than
an owl's? Now, delusion is commonly defined as a fixed false belief on
something that is either false, fanciful or derived from deception. So,
a person calling himself a waray even if he is not is delusional!
And never accuse me of using
highfalutin (not "high-falottin" as you earlier spelled, now don't
accuse me of being sarcastic again, I am just correcting your spelling
because you might use that in a formal letter or document and it will be
so embarrassing on your part to be a native american speaker who boasts
of knowing the meaning of kakistocracy but could not spell a simple word
as highfalutin) for pomp and pageantry because I assume, especially you
"full-blooded american," that we all could understand the meaning of
words written in English---the lengua franca of the modern world and the
language at birth of Troy.
There are times that I need to
expound on words especially legal gobbledygook because not all are
familiar with legal terms since most are still coded in Latin. And
saying that you are not impressed of my "5000 dollars word" is so
presumptuous of you to believe that I am trying to impress you. My
intent in writing is to express my sentiments and not to impress
readers. To me, content is always better than form. If you want to
barrage me with a parade of synonymous words to make one point, thank
you for opening your thesaurus but that tactic is dinosaurus---old and
useless---only good in museums. Let me tell you one thing though that a
word must be taken in proper context to be relevant and not merely used
to parade your lack of content and imagination.
You should not instruct me to
re-read the 1987 Constitution and the Corporation Code of the
Philippines. I have not only read the letters of those laws but have
understood their spirits at heart. Charging me of using legal and
factual arguments for merely showing off is an argument of those who
cannot come up with legal and factual arguments of greater weight.
Answer my arguments using your own knowledge of Philippine laws instead
of showing off that anything is possible in the Philippines because of
the corruption being practiced by the government officials.
And speaking of Troy of
Homer's Iliad, there is a trojan horse that would eventually mean in
disguise of a sinister plot. Are you Troy of USA a trojan horse like
your historical and mythical name suggests? Well, I'm sure you are a
boiling potato soup again.
I hope that this would be my
last piece about Troy from USA because I am already having a sense that
I am like arguing with a egotistically-challenged man. I'd rather argue
with a drunken labasero and mananguite than to argue with this haughty
fellow. But, let me make it clear that I will not allow haughty fellows,
especially self-proclaimed "non-filipinos" to bully me and my fellow
Samarnons. I will fight to end!

Samarnon,
Take offense as much as you
want about my comment regarding some corrupt people. In the Philippines.
You can even pretend that corruption and corrupt people doesn't exist in
the Philippine culture. The truth however can be blatantly seen.
Remember Estrada? Marcos? I recognized that corruption and corrupt
people is not exclusive to the Philippines, but I did not said that it
is.
But I know why you resent my
statement, and I cant blame you for your reaction. However don't shot
the messenger, shut those corrupt people. And know the distinction
between an individual act versus a whole race. I do. I recognized that
the majority of people are hard working, honest, and trustworthy. But
some are not. I would never call an entire population such an such
because I know better that it is not true. I am not a bigot, prejudice
nor discriminatory. And by the way, if I am a Filipino, I would be proud
to admit to it. Unfortunately, that would not be true. To pacify your
insistence, ok sure I am a Filipino. So did my statement stung any less?
Or maybe my point is any less truer?
By the way, if I am a
Filipino.

all those who pretend to be lovers of Samar. Pls stop criticizing
opinions of other contributors/writers in this board. You have
absolutely no right to criticize other opinions. Just know how to
respects other equal rights as your in giving comments to all issues
discussed. Some people pretend to love democracy and freedom, freedom
from expression that is, but cannot even accept opinion/comments of one
certain Troy re Samar state of bad roads. In politics, there is an adage
which says, "the enemy of my friend is also my enemy," when you suffer
pain because of the comments of Troy, do you tell us that you are a

It takes two to tango: The
corrupt officials and the corruptor/briber!!!
Troy is slowly showing his
true colors in public. From being a saint denouncing corruption in the
Philippines to one who is benefiting from the ongoing corrupt practices
of government officials.
Here's how he packaged his
latest response on a foreigner's right to own lands in the Philippines.
He mentioned the corporate sabotage (40-60 corporate scheme, 40%
foreign-60% local ownership) to surreptitiously hold Philippine lands. A
40-60 corporation can own lands in the Philippines in furtherance of its
corporate mission. However, a corporation in the strictest legal sense
has a personality separate and distinct from its owners or shareholders.
So in legal fiction, the shareholder does not own a particular title to
the property owned by the corporation because of that concept of the
corporation having its own juridical personality. So, Troy, in the legal
sense your father does not own the land owned by the corporation and in
the event that there is dissolution of that corporation, he will have no
title to that land. He does not even have an inchoate right to the land
because of his citizenship. Of course corruption in the Philippines make
it possible for foreigners to have the usufruct (the right to use) of
lands because foreigners usually have Filipino dummies to front as the
ones owning the 60% to comply with the requirements of the law and this
kind of schemes are so prevalent in the tourism industry. If you would
notice, beach areas are owned by Filipinas married to their foreigner
husbands but true ownership belongs to a group of unscrupulous foreigner
capitalist businessmen who avail of the loophole in that law.
While it is the sad reality in
the Philippines, I have not expected a crusader like Troy from USA to
abuse the system. Troy, you have just lost your moral ascendancy to talk
about corruption when you yourself is publicly saying that you could do
anything you want in the Philippines in cahoots with the corrupt
officials, immoral lawyers, and dumb dummy Filipinos.
I challenge you to first
correct your evil desires before you preach about the evils of
corruption in Samar. The wanton corruption in the Philippines is the
major reason why roads are not properly maintained, basic health and
social services not properly given to the people, and so on and so
forth. In the law of God and the law of men, the corruptor or the briber
is as guilty as the corrupted or the one bribed.
So when you apply some balm to
your sore butt, remember that you are being punished for your
contributory sin of cahooting with the devils!
Now, can you denounce your own
evil, Troy? Ah, well even the devil can quote biblical passages!

To remedy the irrepairable
roads of Samar, I strongly recommend building or constructing
over-passes or bridges over those spots that persistently become
potholes or small ponds especially during the monsoon or rainy seasons.
This maybe a very expensive proposition but in the long run, its
benefits will surpass its costs, not to mention the relief of the
tortured souls and corpus of the traveling public.
The public deserves a
civilized highway to travel around Samar, and it's time for all good
Warays to come to come up with ideas of building smooth roads. If other
provinces of the Philippines can do it, why can't Samar?

Mr. Morales,
Your reprehensible ranting has
shown the state of your delusional mind, which is full of grandiosity
and paranoia. It shows how your mind is playing tricks on you; reading
messages in-between lines (when it does not exist), projecting ideas and
thoughts (which I am not quilty), and expressing actuations and
perceived behavior ( I am totally innocent). You read “in-between lines”
and gave meaning as you perceived how it should be read. Not how the
author intended for it to be read and comprehended. You are fond of
assuming, presuming, presupposing, and guessing. Sadly only to be told,
by me, how incorrectly you have interpreted my writing. I am not a good
writer as you do, but I know that I wrote to be understood by all. I
don't write to show-off what I have learned from school, read from
dictionary or online. Any language serves just one purpose, be it
written or spoken, it exist for the purpose of communicating. And that’s
the reason why I write, to communicate to everyone without being
insulting, nor sarcastic. I concede that you write well and is probably
intelligent, thus far all I see in your writings are guesses, sarcastic
remarks, high-fallotin words (to show off?), and nothing else.
Example from your posting:
Because of your haughtiness,
try to distinguish your person and your comments. I don't have to know
your name, your age, your address including your ZIP code, your marital
status, your vital statistics, and your circumstances just so I could
respond to whatever you wrote in the message board of Samarnews.com.
Otherwise, it would be better for you to join Friendster, face book,
MySpace, and what have you so you be in the company of friends who can
say only good things about you. If you take these remarks personally,
then it is up to you and my hope is for you to learn your lessons well
while reading the remarks of other people.
Your calling me haughty is not
only a stretch of the meaning but an abuse, on your part, for frequently
looking at the dictionary. I assumed you labeled me “condescendingly
proud” because of my posting, to which if have to judge you and your
writing is guiltier. I challenge you to try reading my postings, with a
clean/clear and unbiased mind, and then tell me if you get a “scornfully
and condescendingly proud”, writing or person, as dictionary defines
haughty. After which I suggest that you re-read your postings and then
judge both of us whom fits that word better or more.
Here is my initial posting
which raised your eye brow.
More than a year ago, I went
through Catbalogan and Calbayog, on my way to Catarman. I was so
disgusted with the road condition, that I promised I would never go down
that same horrendous route--ever again, for as long as the so called
"road" exists. So to all my dear, fellow waray, can someone tell me if
that governmental embarrassment is a thing of the past?
To respond to some of my
concerns:
Infuriated---I am not. I
responded to your posting with the sole purpose of correcting your
perception. My life doesn’t revolve around this website or showing off.
Thank you very much but I have a satisfying life far better than what
cyber space can offer.
Sore ego---Again here is
another one which you conveniently redirected your feelings on me. I
don’t see any reason why I should be, but based on your responses it
seems like you are.
CVS and Walgreen—you have
mentioned these pharmacies several times in the past. FYI: We don’t have
CVS pharmacy where I live but we do have Walgreen, Wal-Mart, Rite-aid
.Personally I use Kaiser Pharmacy, but my ego is fine so I don’t need
any ointment for it. Besides there is no such treatment anyways, however
maybe you can use a preparation-H after all you have been a pain in the
ass lately.
Ownership of land by foreign
entity or individual—I suggest you read up on it again because the
information you have spewed is incorrect. Loop holes, corporations, etc.
High-fallotin word: The fact
that you use 5000 dollars words doesn’t impress me, it just tell me that
you know how to read a dictionary.
Now see if you know what these
words means: boastful, braggart, bragging, braggy, big, cock-a-hoop,
crowing, self-aggrandizing, self-aggrandising.
By the way, Mr. Morales, I am
aware of what kakistocracy is, without looking at a dictionary. Did you
beforehand?
Some more points for you to
ponder:
1. How long a person does
needs to be away to no longer call them a Filipino? Waray? Cebuano? I
read your postings and I strongly disagree with you on your lecture
because I still consider myself a waray even if I am not a native
Filipino.
By the way you confused me
with your answers, again you rambled two contradicting opinion.
“My understanding is that a
waray will forever be a waray no matter what and no matter where”.
2. Taken from your own writing
again: ”A full-blooded American would be an american indian who can
trace his lineage to the the mighty people who originally owned the
lands in that hemisphere. But that would be another topic”.
You are right because native
Filipino or original Filipino is called negrito. Filipinos today are a
mixture of Malay, Chinese, American, European, etc, since that is the
case, can you call yourself a Filipino? Waray, Tagalog, etc. Or Asian
for that matter? By the way, who makes the decision who can call
themselves whatever? you? Me?
Mr. Morales, you knew full
well that you did not have anything to disagree nor quarrel with me,
after all you don’t have much information to tell nor conclude about me
nor if telling you is wrong or right. Instead you commented on my
writing, sarcastic, I might add, with the purpose of spinning and
redirecting my complaints. Or I could be wrong. Maybe you just wanted to
be heard....
I surmise however that name
calling, sarcasm, threats, and insults is the only way you know how to
fight back.

To the Readers of Samarnews:
What you are now, what you do
and possibly what could happen to you in the next hour or even in the
days and years to come in your life, there is one that is exactly like
you in every respect of you as a being. Your twin or copy that according
to an American science magazine does exist about 10 to the 10 28th
(power) meters from where you are. This distance is so large that it is
beyond astronomical, but this does not nor makes your doppelganger any
less real.
It has been believed over the
years that by way of accepted astronomical sciences, we live on planet
earth which is a small dot in the galaxy called Milky Way. Having said
that, this galaxy (Milky Way) is just a speck as well from among the
innumerable number of galaxies which make up our universe.
But according to this
scientific American special report, our universe is just a part of what
they termed as ‘parallel universes’. So in other words, the universe
where we are in, is in tandem of a whole called ‘parallel universes’.
(mind you, it took me sometime to ‘sort out’ this particular line in
this message)... But this does not end here, because according to these
scientists, our universe as well as our ‘sister’ universe as I may call
it at this point are just a part of a whole of a series of universes
called Level 1 Multiverse which again can be treated as one and separate
from other Level 1 multiverses. Whew!!!
The farthest that we can
observe a parallel universe is currently about 4 x 10 to the 26 power
(10 26th) meters, or 42 billion light-years, the distance that light has
been able to travel since the ‘big bang’ began. The distance is greater
than 14 billion light years because cosmic expansion has lengthened
distances according to the magazine. Each of the Level 1 parallel
universes is basically the same as ours. All the differences stem from
variations in the initial arrangement of matter.
As explained earlier in this
message, having an identical twin for each one of us on earth that also
exists at the same time in the parallel universes, I can imagine now
that people with the likes of Boy Abunda (from Borongan), Kris Aquino,
the whistle blower Jun Lozada, Pokwang, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of
California, Parish priest Noel Labendia, Nelson Mandela of South Africa,
Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore, David Beckham and his wife Posh, Ronaldinho,
singer Madonna, and actress Demi Moore and all the rest of those who
populate Samarnews Chat room which I failed to mention in my earlier
message, like otoy, sweetheart, buragtukon, dot, question mark, pawee
and some that I cannot remember now are all in this parallel universe.
I can also say that ‘alter
egos’ of some of these most prolific writers and regular contributors of
this column would be in as well, though they maybe in that parallel
universe acting as ‘de factos’ like Press Secretary T.B. Morales, Ethnic
and Immigration Minister Troy, Speaker of the column Pro-tempore
Samarnon, and statistic analyst Mr. Juan Cruz to name a few. These
‘duplicates’ have spice-up and made their own Samarnews column as
livelier and kicking as ever.
In the same breath, we imagine
that the likes of Pol-Pot of Kampuchea, Imelda Marcos, Captain Marimon
of Don Sulpicio Lines, Gov. Mila Tan of Leyte, Former Commissioner
Benjamin Abalos, Joc-Joc Bolante to name a long list, are in a different
universe than ours with droughts, earthquakes, and typhoons in their
midst. Let us also imagine that they have a couple of dinosaurs and
pterodactyls for their company.
Lastly, I must say, that let
us not despair ourselves to the deplorable condition of our roads in
Samar because somewhere in the multitude of universes in this infinite
space, there exists roads similar to ours, crater-like, difficult and
exasperating to travel.

Samar will soon be crafted on
the internatinal map of tourist destinations. Thanks to the natural
beauty of Calicoan in Guiuan where its nature exceeds what Boracay could
offer.
An American firm is now on the
go in its development of a huge resort and spa where employment can be
generated. The government showed interest in re-openning the Guiuan
Airport.
This sounds well and good. But
with advantages to the Samar folks, there also exist some disadvantages.
Amrerican firms usually hire to the top position their own people either
from USA or from Manila, Cebu and other regions. Samar folks will then
remain as gardeners, cleaners, night dancers or other positions that
does not need the total use of brains.
The environmental protection
of the island can also be at stake once hundreds of thousands of
tourists marches to Calicoan.
Is the Samar government
prepared to meet such challenges or do they rejoice of the plans as this
American firm is a solid milking cow?

Prayer Request for Jose R.
Hernandez:
Lord, you have
been our refuge through all generations.
Before the mountains were born, the earth and the world brought forth,
from eternity to eternity you are God.
A thousand years in your eyes are merely a yesterday.
But humans you return to dust, saying, "Return you mortals!"
They disappear like sleep at dawn; they are like grass that dies.
Lord, teach us to count our days aright, that we may gain wisdom of
heart.
Fill us at daybreak with your love, that all our days we may sing for
joy.
Make us glad as many days as you humbled us, for as many years as we
have seen trouble.
Show your deeds to your servants, your glory to their children.
May the favor of the Lord our God be ours.
Prosper the work of our hands! Prosper the work of our hands!
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The Grace of God the Father,
the love of Christ the Son and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be upon
you richly!
May I request a prayer for the
eternal repose of the soul of Jose Hernanadez. He died in Calbiga,
Samar, Philippines, a cousin of my wife (my sweet Virginia).
Let us pray:
Abba Father,
our God, creator of the universe; maker of the heaven and the earth, the
seas and all that is in them. O God, into your Hand we commend the soul
of Jose Hernandez. Let your angels come to his aid; come forth to meet
him, angels of the Lord, receiving his soul, presenting it to the Most
High. May the LORD, who has called him, now receive him.
For to those who have faith in you, Lord, life does not cease--- it
merely changes! And when our earthly dwelling falls to ruin, we find an
eternal home in heaven. Eternal rest grant unto Jose Hernandez, O Lord;
and let perpetual light shine upon him. Amen.
Thanks and God bless!
Mar (Nitoy) Hernandez

The day shall come and I'll rejoice,
No more pain or suffering.
My strength restored to sing and dance,
For I'll be present with the Lord.
A lifetime of laughter, a moment of pain,
All part of my Father's plan.
This journey filled with sweet memories,
Claims victory in its end.
My humble prayers He has heard,
And my voice and name He knows.
By His salvation of my mere soul,
His precious love for me He shows.
The yokes been lifted by my Master's hand,
I can breath relief once more.
My life has been guided by His command,
A servant's heart he does adore.
I now rest in my Master's hand,
I now rest in my Master's hand,
My day has ended, I've been called home,
I can rest in my Master's hand.
With my last breath life begins,
I now walk in my eternal home.
And to those that precede me and those to come,
I'll meet you at the Throne.

To Troy:
Mr. Troy, I find your comment
on our people, politics and culture as a whole very offensive. Don't
tell me about corruption. It is universal. Nice try to malign our people
and land - but not good enough. I am not impressed at all. You concern
is very shallow and frivolous.
I tried to play "innocent" and
give you the benefit of the doubt about your claim of who you really
are. But in the back of my mind I have no doubt that you've got some of
our blood. You are just one kind of a person who is trying hard to
forget his roots for some reasons or another. You are not alone though.
I have met quite a few of Filipinos here in Canada who are like you -
some just exactly like you! WHAT A SHAME! A chameleons will always be
chameleons - they only change color.
Having said that, I am not
proud of having you here. I am sure you are not even welcome to visit
our land with my felow Waray-Warays.
Enjoy your camouflage.

Friends,
Our discussions here at
Samarnews only get better..."As time goes by." Somehow, I had this
feeling that someone of Mr. Marcial's caliber would send an excellent
feedback on the news of the Samar governor's suspension. If the wheels
of justice grind, albeit slowly - let there be prosecution for all
offenses, to the fullest extent of the law. That's why we have laws -
for them to be implemented. And, of course, if the alleged culprits are
found guilty and are meted their just punishment..."merece". "Dura lex,
sed lex." "A harsh law, but still the law." This should be the kind of
attitude that should prevail, unless we want society to fall apart.
Justice has to prevail in the end. No ifs, ands, or buts.
Angay ipakita hit Filipinas
nga may pa nahibibilin nga justicia ha aton nasud, bisan nala kon guti-ay.
Ini yana nga "suspension" hit gobernadora, unta makapukaw hit iba, bisan
namanla alid-aguid hin "panulibangko". Angay la iton Justicia sumering
yana, "Sulibangko...diri gadla iton mga gudti nga isda it amon
inu-ungayan dinhi ha Filipinas, pati pa gad it mga dagko amon
guinlalanat." Pastilan, makuri man ini kon puros nala kuro-o it mahihimo
hit taghimungto ha Samar. Justicia nagad man, bisan namanla tinalagudti.
Baga pahalipay nala ini hiton lomolopyo nga maiha na gud nga naghaharoy.
Angay ba ini iton sirot hit balaud, kon lugaring man matuod nga may
nakatalapas han balaud? Ada...sering pa didto ha Este..."pa dama!"
Panahon na gad man nga tahuron iton balaud ngan ini diri la paghinumoson
didto hit mga libro.
Ngan Mr. Morales...thanks for
reminding us, that no matter how far we may be from the hometown or home
province...we will always remain Samarenyos, Waray-Warays. Hi ako, diri
ko ini ikaaawod nga akon ka Samarenyo ngan ka Waray-Waray, kay kon waray
an Samar...waray man ako, diri ak kikilal-on hit kalibutan nga hi ako.
Ngan tama ka, may naton kalugaringon yinaknan, cultura, ngan pamatasan.
Upod na hini iton ka maki-tuba, ka maki-kinilaw ngan sinugba, kahuman
pinapadisan hin sab-a, camote, bilanghoy o palawan. Ngan gaway pa ngay-an
nga "marondon" ha Basay!
Diri ko iglilirong it akon ka
Filipino ngan ka Waray-Waray, kay ha kamatuoran la...Filipino citizen
ako, may ko mga tuna nga iba nga propiedades didto ha may Basay ngan
Santa Rita. Unob gud ini nga Samarenyo, nga bisan pa nim ak agdahon
pagsumsom hit nga karawasan ha Villa, diri gud ak mabaribad. Kay aton
man kalugaringon. Bisan pa kon makuri iton kahimtang ha Filipinas, buhi
pa guihapon it ak paglaum nga may guihapon adlaw nga magbabag-o ngan
mauswag iton nasud, kon kita ngatanan magkakaurosa ngan maniningkamot.
Tungod hini nga akon pagtuo hit Filipinas, asya iton - bisan pa kon aadi
ak ha langyaw, na nabotos pa guihapon, "absentee ballot" la lugaring.
Kundi, may maupay nala iton ke hiton akon isasalikway ha kadayunan it
Filipinas ngan it ak minayuyo nga isla ha Samar.
"There's no place like home!"
Asya la, mga kasangkayan. Kon nakuro-o man lugaring kita hiunong hit
naton ibubuyagyag ini ngatanan, aber pa man may manmati ngan maaghat
pag-gui-os. Mabuhi an Filipinas! Mabuhi an Samar! Ngan mabuhi an
Samarnews!

To Hagi and his proposed seed
trafficking:
Thank you Hagi for your
insightful suggestion but let us be cautious with all these seeds coming
from other parts of the world. The problem with trafficking plants and
animals is the danger that it will compete with the locally endemic
flora and fauna. We don't want to eliminate our own species of tropical
plants and animals. You see God ordained that some plants grow in the
tropics and others in the temperate parts of the world but travel,
trade, and trafficking have destroyed that pattern.
If you would notice, you can't
bring seeds, plants, or animals to the US without passing through the
scrutinizing screening of the Department of Agriculture (DA) to protect
their own endemic species. Pati ngani butong pakwan guinkukuha pa labi
na kun baga diri luto kit-on. Some species are just so invasive that
they destroy the natural balance of the local habitat. Take for instance
the ordinary cogon grass. It is so invasive that it will turn forests
into prairies.
So, before we advice our
kababayans to traffic seeds, especially the genetically modified ones---damo
iton ha western hemisphere, to our country to be careful and consult the
internet or the local Department of Agriculture for some advice and
knowledge.
If you know that Filipina who
is advising her kababayans to traffic seeds, please tell her about the
possible negative implications of her good intentions.
I have no doubt that her
intention was good and that your suggestion Hagi was based on the hope
of giving livelihood opportunities to our kababayans in the Philippines
but there are locally available plants that command high prices in the
international market. Balimbing for instance costs like $1.00 a piece in
Chicago when I was there and thought of the many balimbings na
guinpapakaon la ha baboy ha amon ha Catbalogan. We have so many local
species that could be marketed internationally but the government is not
doing well in this department.
I am one with you in your hope
that our fellow Filipinos could see the value of planting seeds today so
the next generation will reap the rewards in the future.
