63rd Suluan Raid

I have watched and listened with
interest the video where the lady mayor of Guiuan expressed her personal
desire as well as the entire people of the district that the Suluan incident
(raid) be recognized by the National government.
In my own point of view and
observation, Suluan had played a 'pivotal role for the U.S. forces in the
eventual liberation of the country from the Japanese Army. The airstrip
built in such a short span of time and secrecy (as narrated by the lady
mayor in the video) to my opinion must be preserve by all means to remind us
that in this part of the country, Suluan had served its historic role in the
restoration of our lost freedoms and the renewal of our aspirations for a
democratic life. I never knew that there is such a historic place until
after I’ve watched the video on U-tube.
I was in Guiuan but only for a
very short time with some family members last February this year. I can
start doing some research work on the place's historical remnants if ever
they are still available. I will do some research work as my time allows me
to do so. I am not promising anything but you can advise the good lady mayor
and those people gathered on that occasion that they got my interest in the
historical importance of Suluan being a Waray-waray and Estehanon myself.

POLITICAL KILLING NOT OFFICIAL BUT
AN UNINTENDED POLICY?
The news article “Political
Killings not official but an unintended policy”, (PDI, May 9, p. 1) was an
expośe that was good though already late. It has long been a common
knowledge among human rights groups that the military have been engaged in
this practice of eliminating or neutralizing not only the armed but also
unarmed dissidents. By and large, the expośe only confirmed what the public
already knew.
It is also inaccurate to say that
elements from the military were only encouraged to commit this illegal and
immoral practice after President Arroyo praised retired general Jovito
Palparan for his anti-communist crusade during her State of the Nation
Address in 2006. Retired General Jovito Palparan had been engaged in
numerous human rights violations, that is, even before he came to Samar in
2005 until he was transferred to Central Luzon, and so were other men in
uniform. The fact that President Arroyo publicly praised, and singled out,
such a high profile human rights violator as Palparan, might have revealed
her undeclared policy guiding the actions of the military. In fact, the
military, oftenly in public declare, the timeline to decimate the insurgents
by the end of her term 2010. Could it be her marching order? Trouble is, in
the hurried quest to please the President, it is usually the civilians that
become victims, particularly those in the countrysides, who are caught
between two armed parties.
Another indication of unseen hand
in the events of extra judicial killings and enforced disappearances was the
apparent decline of similar incidences after the publicized report of Sir
Philip Alston, UN Special Rapporteur and the series of statement of concern
from different countries.
WE believe that there were many
foot soldiers and military officers who were conscientious, who by their
mind and conviction do not agree with the dastardly act of killing enemies
outside the dictate of law and without due process. Unfortunately they are
bound by the principle of obeying their higher officers without complaint.

When it rains hard and begins to
flood, does it also flood to El Reposo Street and inside, so, what happens
now to many poor people who've been used to old cemetery visiting graves and
cleaning every October 30-31st and, selling candles for a living, are there
still many people who celebrate the "patron-karisyohan" during the ending
week of October to November 4, and what will that place be when families
will transfer their dear dead loved-ones to Basper Area?
Retain the area in this title, The
Old Cemetery, with the old tombs inside, and on the outside, a white painted
steel gate, so, it would look like a cemetery park from the outside. Do not
transfer the old tombs.

The congress and senate should
pass a law that the government should be Honest, Open, and Transparent to
the people of the Philippines. Any violation, act of corruption that will
affect the government should be penalized and enforced by the law. That
every region should have a blueprint of development, so we can measure our
progress by region. And lastly a quarterly mandatory reports of the
congressman to their District in public Radios, TV and news papers. And the
PCGG together with the Ombudsman, NBI should monitor and prosecute the
officials who are not doing their job. Just a suggestion. Eternal vigilance
is the price of Liberty.

apparently targets the members of progressive organizations and resulted to

Let us all stand and fight as
Sa mapayapang paraan, i urge
everyone to fight and stand behind the long awaited moral revolution sa
taong bayan...may pag-asa pa…MAGKAISA LANG TAYO!!

The Filipino
Characteristics
Over the years, I have noticed the
annoying characteristics of most Filipinos from the US to the islands of the
Philippines. Most Filipinos will deny their most disgusting habits of
backstabbing and bad mouthing each other. They will smile and share a laugh
with other races or other people in general, but once their back is turned,
many things will be said though unnecessary. Most Filipino characteristics
are noticeable. It is rare that a few would be original enough to state
their own original thoughts.
The first characteristics I would
like to address, racism. Most Filipinos are racist against a few races or
ethnicities. Is there a difference between races or ethnicities? Does a
superior race or ethnicities exist? I love the color of my skin, my eyes,
and my hair. It is these physical features that other races would like to
have and pays money to be the same skin tone we are. For example, there are
people who die their hair to blonde hair and change their eye color to blues
eyes. These external physical features are nothing but shallowness, my
container is deeper than that.
There is also a problem with
mistreatments of fellow Filipinos because of their economic origins. The
middle to high income families hires the low income families to be their
servants and think they can treat them like animals. I have seen high class
families mistreat their servants. They would physically, mentally, and
emotionally abuse them because they cannot fight them back. It almost seems
like a modern form of slavery. Because these low income people are starving
and have no where to go, they will take the abuse. Low income families in
the Philippines have no choice. Money is scarce and jobs are limited because
most low income families do not have the skills and the education they need
to elevate from poverty and ignorance.
We are a third world country. More
than half of our people are living in dirt and starving. The problem is most
of our people are uneducated and misinformed. But if educating more of our
people would probably help our economy and our society, why not invest our
money into that purpose? Yes, our government is corrupt, but the only way to
help ourselves is to educate and inform people to make a change. There is no
perfect form of government; every nation has its own problems.
The second issue I would like to
address, backstabbing and bad mouthing each other. Most Filipinos love to
gossip and talk about other people’s business. They also love to bash others
short comings and hardship. There are Filipinos who feel jealous or a
loss in competition if another Filipino is successful. The Middle to High
class Filipino societies does not care enough about their country, because
if they did, there would be a drastic change in the Philippines already. The
roads and bridges would be finished. There would be programs formed in order
to help the poor and the uneducated. There would be more people informed
about the way the government is corrupted and would have already influenced
more people of a new government.
The Filipino Americans’ only
concerns are gossiping, talking badly about each other’s business, showing
off. These so-called Filipino Associations are mostly meaningless parties
for Filipinos living here in the states to show off what they have. The
Filipino parents in America are not educating their children enough about
our own country. It is almost like forgetting where they came from. Most
Filipino parents do not even know who their children are. They only see what
they want to see in order to brag about them, but they do not really see
what kind of hardship, trials, and tribulations their child is going
through. They only care about working hard in order to provide what their
kids need and wants, but what do these parents know about what their
children needs or wants when they are barely there for them to listen to or
ask what entails their day? I am not saying that working hard and be able to
provide for your families is a negative thing, but if you’re well-off, why
not help out your fellow country men.
The Filipino Americans
Associations are formed in each 50 states, but how many of these so called
associations really helped out their own country and how money was
contributed to their people? Did the money really helped the poor and
uneducated or did it end up in someone else rich pocket to make themselves
even fatter? No one ever really remembers what kind of cars you drive, where
you’ve been, and how big your houses are. Most people remember how you have
helped them and made a difference in their life. Most people died for their
beliefs and that’s why there is still violence because no one would help the
rest of our people in education. The saying, “the pen is mightier than the
sword,” holds true.
While these Filipino Associations
are having these so-called parties, the foreigners are helping themselves
get richer on our islands by buying off pieces of our lands to build their
five star resorts, which ironically, helping our economy. The reality is
that the problem within our nations is caused by our own government and
corrupted officials. Only the rich who can afford education are concerned
with themselves and no one else. There are some who are trying to make the
wrong things right, but are being convicted as traitors or sought out to be
annihilated. Americans can only do so much; we must make the change
ourselves.
During the years of living in both
the United States and the Philippines, I have noticed that the Americans are
always fighting for truth and justice. They struggled for many centuries to
be a unified country. Many leaderships have formed a nation so strong that
they bought out other countries to be able to put there military bases all
over the world. What other nation can do this? You don’t see any other
nation trying to put up a military base on the United States, do you? The
United States has set a standard that others may follow. When allied
countries are at war, the US is there to help without any hesitation.
You don’t see that many
individuals seek for a better life anywhere else, but going to the United
States. Why do you think that is? The US has been growing and still growing.
Other nation seems to forget the history before the United States was
formed. Many people died to protect this country, and many of them came from
different races and ethnicities because they believe in Unity and Peace.
This country was also colonized by another country. The fathers of this
nation sought freedom and won. And now other nations are trying to conquer
this great country for a good reason. Because if the United States fall
under tyranny, many nation would fall as well. I am proud to be part of this
nation, but I am also proud to be Filipino. And I would fight for my beliefs
and for my countries.
Why are you proud to be Filipino?
The truth of the matter is, you don’t know what the hell you are because our
blood is mixed with all kinds other ethnicities in it. I am proud to be a
Filipino descendent because my ancestors paid a big price for freedom. We
are still fighting for our freedom, peace and unity. We have never given up
even when it has been centuries. Our heart is true when it comes to fighting
for our rights. Most Filipinos should not ever give up on things that
matters and on their belief because if we give up then there would be no
hope left for the future generations.

Magandang araw sa lahat. Ako ay si
Mikael, hindi po ako taga Samar but I do agree that this province has been
deprived of one of the very prominent basic services that the government has
to offer...that is the construction of good roads for the Samarenos.
Sad to say, nang dumating ako dito
more than a year ago, hindi lang pala ang leaders ang may malaking problema
but the people themselves have great participation as far as the province is
concerned.
Two elections had passed and to my
at gahamang pulitiko. Sa isang banda, I cannot blame the people for that,
survival is the name of the game. Ang taong nagugutom hindi na mag-iisip
kung tama o mali ang nangyayari. I've been to civil-war torn countries
during my stint with the United Nations, nakarating ako sa Haiti at Liberia
for foods. Pero hindi pa gano'n ang Samar. This province has a lot to offer,
given the good leadership marami pang pag-asenso ang mangyayari dito.
This place has a very good
climate, napakasarap tumira if not for the roads. Rain pours even summer,
isda and the vegetables are abundant.
So sa lahat ng mga Samarenos, I
urge you to be more patient and vigilant after all hindi sa lahat ng oras ay
sacrifices ang nararanasan ng mga tao. One thing na you should change here
is the attitude towards the selection of people leading the province. You
have seen the effects of dirty politics so it's up to you to decide if you
still want it to be that way. There's always a room for change. Huwag lang
kayong mainip...

Sa lahat ng taga Samar "maupay nga
adlaw". I am a citizen of Calbayog I’m a scholar here in Cebu. We had
internet lessons here so when I see this site I read all the feedbacks of
some Samarians and I agree it is all true. How pitiful Samar is!!!
In this school the Sisters of Mary
School we are scholars from any places here in the Philippines some are from
Mindanao, from Cebu from Surigao, Iloilo and any other places. Sometimes
they would be proud of their places. We who came from Samar nothing to be
proud of!! Even the " kalsadas" a little project of the government "sira"
how much more for the congressmen and other leaders of our place!!! Mata na!!!
Not just the Samarians but especially to the Samarian leaders. I’m still a
high school student I can already feel and sense what’s going on in Samar
how much more if I’ll grow…

The Diary of Mariannet Amper will
serve as wake-up call to National & Local Government that Poverty could cost
life.
A Touching Article dated: November
08, 2007
The United Nations report on
poverty and hunger in the Philippines is alarming. The claims of the
government about our economy is nothing but insulting. I am sure you've
heard of the 12-yr. old girl who committed suicide. If not, I would like to
share with you this heart-wrenching article that has put a face on poverty.
All Mariannet Amper wanted was to
finish her studies. It’s sad that her wish will never come true. A day after
her father failed to give her P100 for a school project, Mariannet hanged
herself in their small shanty. The father who was able borrow P1,000 arrived
too late. All he went home to was a home filled with sorrow.
Mariannet wrote her sentiments in
her school diary. Her Oct. 5 entry said that she felt like she's been absent
for a month and that she did not even notice that it’s almost Christmas. Her
father said that they had no money for her fare and food that Mariannet had
to skip school. Her entry for Oct. 14 said that they were not able to hear
mass as they did not have money for their fare and that her father was sick.
She and her mother had to do laundry just to have something for the table.
Her unsent letter to GMA-7's Wish
Ko Lang show which realizes the wishes of needy letter-senders was found in
her diary as well. She wrote, she wished for a new bag and a pair of shoes,
a small livelihood for her parents, a bike and for her to be able to finish
her studies.
Their family is the poorest of the
poor. Even their poor neighbors are well off compared to them. They are
rejected by their very neighbors because they were filthy. There were even
times that they begged from their neighbors for leftovers just to have
something to eat.
The poor girl is long gone. The
trickle down of Gloria's 7.5 GDP did not reach her or will ever reach
children like her. The girl has matured faster because of the hard life they
had. She wouldn't be this desperate to think of such an act in her tender
age if she was like just any other kid.
I couldn't put sense into all
these. All that flooded my mind was how many like her are out there? Gloria
can give hundreds of thousands of pesos to her already rich and fat-bellied
allies while 3 million kids under the age of 5 are malnourished. She can
give half a million to governors while 52 million Filipinos say they are
poor. It’s too late for Gloria to release P1 billion for poverty
alleviation. The threat of rising prices looms in the horizon, ready to
engulf an already impoverished nation.
There is no sense in reactionary
responses. She should have developed proactive programs years before. She is
the second longest serving president. But of course her interests come first
and the Filipinos last.
She would rather spend billions
making her cohorts happy and making sure of her political survival. Finally
poverty has a face and a name. Poverty is Mariannet Amper, the 12 yr. old
girl who only wanted to finish her studies so she can help her impoverished
family.

An kaarawod nga mga kalsada san Samar

I am a Samareño in heart and soul
but now living in Cebu City. Every time I have the nick of time, I always go
to my homebase in Brgy. San Policarpo, Calbayog City, Samar. If ever I can't
catch up with the FJP Lines MWF schedules, I always travel via Hilongos or
Baybay or Ormoc then by land to Tacloban to Calbayog. From the Leyte side, I
am awed with the chiselled road the province has up to Calbaiga portion in
Samar which from there, the CALVARY begins. Roads are so devastated, as if
you were back in time before the Martial Law. Kaarawod gad ora-ora san aton
mga tourists. Hardly can I sigh a relief only when I reach Calbayog City.
When can we have BETTER ROADS
then? What are DPWH-Region 8 people doing? Enriching yourselves? How about
the so called elected Congressmen, Governors and other responsible
government officials. MALUOY GAD KAM SAN TAGA SAMAR. HOW can we ever be
proud promoting Samar when we have roads like those kind of roads. PEOPLE
WAKE UP! Please give us better services. Or was that WORST good ENOUGH.

Congratulations to all DTI

But how about looking into other
establishments also? like Hardware Stores that selling sub-standard sizes or
dimensions (specifications) of construction materials? Everybody knew
especially those who have repaired and constructed houses that steel rod,
angle bars, roofing seams, sheet-plywood, etc.., sold in the market today
aren’t standard anymore in diameter and/or thickness compared to what we
bought from the market 7 years back.
Today if we buy, example size: 12
mm dia. steel rod/bar, the actual size will give by the dealer (Hardware
Stores) has dimension anywhere from 9 to 10 mm diameter, the same also with
angle bars size: 2-1/2” x 2-1/2” web width x ¼” thick, the actual dimension
is more or less 2-1/4” web width x 3/16” thickness. Is this correct DTI?
Kon dire pa ngani siguro
mababantayan hiton napalit, bangin tagan nala hin 2” x 2“x 1/8” nga sokol.
Dako ini nga pag limbong ngadto hit mga mamaralit. Pag susulod liwat hit

Why Samar Roads are in constant disrepair?
Name: Samarino
Address: Eastern Samar
Email:
Date: Nov 4, 2007
To understand Samar geological
makeup is to understand why Samar roads need endless repairs ever since I
can remember. Intra roads connecting major population centers from north to
south and west to east, not to mention interprovincial highways from Samar
to Leyte, are constructed according to engineering specifications but many
randomly located potholes dot the entire highway systems of Samar.
Samar province is subjected to
volcanic tremors mostly in subtle events rarely felt by humans but do
tremendous damage to the earth surface. Since Samar soil is essentially
porous or very brittle, a little surface disturbance results in damage to
portions of the highways. No amount of repair can alleviate this condition
and there's no known remedy at the present time, except using method similar
to American steel matting.
To meet the problem head-on is to
consider alternative system of transportation. What comes to mind is to
utilize water carriers, a very cost effective system, since Samar's cities
and towns are mostly coastally located. Water transport will supplement
existing roads.
So tremors and soft and delicate
soil chemistry contribute to the costly and endless road works to the
detriment of the govt and people. Water transport dates back to our
ancestors and can be utilized again today.

Kumusta mga ig kasi ko Samarnon,
ano na yana an resulta ha gin aayad nga kalsada tikang ha Calbiga to
Calbayog City?
Calbiga to Catbalogan. Imbis lugod daw nga pag madali-on an trabaho – gin
hin Lonayan hin Karabaw iton iba nga parte hit kalsada…
I traveled to Catbalogan &
Tacloban last May this year, I witnessed how the Contractor did the
drilling/breakage of the existing concrete roads. Being technical man,
although I’m not civil engineer, I realized how on earth this kind of ideas
apply, because Its well known to everyone that the water will
penetrate-absorb to the already loose road foundations, considering the
incoming rainy seasons. Once the water absorbed to the road base-soil, will
keep the road foundation loose & weak and will need voluminous good (class
A) filling materials to revitalize the road foundation/soil bearing-pressure
as well as its peripheries, thus adding the inevitable time delay of work
completion. What were they doing is not construction but destruction. Dire
man iton nasusugad pag lalagay yana nga kalsada kon ira ina-ato hin (trabaho)
construction-finished. Aabutin iton dida nga trabaho hin Siyam-Siyam antis
matapos.
I’ve gone to Europe and Middle
East but I never seen a road contractors doing the same methods as in Samar,
they had started the work with accuracy and shall have been followed with
rushed action to finish the repair/widening or construction of roads for
public convenient use…Only in the Philippines.
What the MPWH is doing? they don’t
monitor the contractor’s Snail-Pace work. You must awarded the contract to
the contractor who did the spalting/widening-construction of
Calbiga-Tacloban road?
Kairo man naton mga Samarnon,
sugad hadton mga magbibiyahe, negosyante ngan nag nenegosyo hin pag Awtohan,
kay kon masugad hiton pirme iton kalsada-ruba, waray maidad hin maiha nga
mga pyisa og sasakyan. Paano an Samar aasenso kon sugad hiton iton aton mga
agi-an?
Siguro naman ada iton aton mga
Leaders dinhe ha Samar, ira gad iton liwat inaabat it kamaraot hit kalsada
kon nagbibyahe hira. Hina-ot unta nga “Umaksyon hira nga madali-on iton
trabaho”.

As a Filipino we have, as a person
we have, as a politician...we don't have. It’s about time to clean up and be
honest. People can see, we are not blind, we are not stupid. Are we going to
wait for the blood to flow before we realize; that we are wrong, in so many
ways? We need social transformation, an upheaval of our country. We need
clean, open and honest government. If you don't have this platform. Please
stop running, as a politician, you are destroying our country and people.
Sobra na tama na, husto na. Sabi ninyo, mapagmahal, marangal, makatao, at
makadiyos kayo.

I am new to this group, but I
decided to post a feedback as I am very concerned about this family from
Samar who are currently being investigated by the FBI, SEC and other govt
agencies here in the US for a SCAM that they have perpetrated in South
California. We found out that the wife is currently there in Samar right now
with her new American husband, even donating money for the construction of a
road in her town.
Pls be careful of people inviting
you guys to join in their investments.
They have conned close to 800
people here in the US, her former husband and eldest son lost their real
estate licenses....... and the sad part is, hundreds of peoples lives were
ruined because of them. Some of their victims are old senior citizens who
will be losing their homes to foreclosure, young families with your kids who
will have their house foreclosed too. These scammers have been vacationing
in the Phils, Europe and Malta using all the money they have squandered from
their victims. If you guys are interested to know who they are, pls log on
to
http://www.coreclient.110mb.com
We want more people to know about
what they did especially the people of Samar. Pls extend this info to as
many of your members as you can. We have been victimized by these people and
the most we could do now is to share info about them so that we can stop
them from getting more new victims. Pls beware.....they can sweet-talk you
into joining, I should know.....I was one of their victims.

We get so many of these operators,
especially those of us who are online. Some of them have European address,
like Italy, Spain or Ireland; still are indeed (???) "USA-based".
With these types of messages and
senders who promise money in any shape, size, form or denomination...the
advise would be DELETE, DELETE, DELETE the message! There's no such thing as
"easy money". And if I had a "secret formula" for making millions...I'd be
stupid to share it the rest of the world, especially with a total stranger.
Listen to the old caveat: "If an
offer is too good to be true, it probably is." Or, as Hustler Magazine would
put it, "If an offer is too good to be true, IT'S PROBABLY NOT TRUE."
Be well-advised and forewarned:
THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS EASY MONEY.
