In Re:
Abraham Llera's
Contraception Intercourse
Mr. Llera is acting as if
he is the messenger of God. Well, I hope he is not the fallen angel
from heaven above.
While it is true that the
Roman Catholic Church has been vocal against contraception for ages,
it is also true that the earlier church accepted slavery and
inquisition as according to biblical injunctions. A purer church in
Mr. Llera's myopic estimation is not only wrong but also
out-of-touch to the realities of time.
When the Roman Catholic
Church subscribes to natural family planning like rhythm then it is
in a way practicing contraception. When the church teaches sex to be
used only for procreation, then it actually contradicts its own
stand when it supports the rhythm method. The "natural family"
planning method of rhythm is actually "safe sex" with full knowledge
that its object is not of procreation but mere recreation. Having
sex only for procreation as Mr. Llera and his cohorts are trying to
drumbeat is way too shallow. My question to Mr. Llera is how many
kids does he have? 2, 3, 4? Does it mean that he only made love to
his wife 2, 3, or 4 times in the many years that he has been
married?
Quite naively, Mr. Llera
is trying to push the debate by saying that you have to follow the
pope because he is the pope. Well, Mr. Llera, the pope is no longer
infallible as you once believed. He just apologized quite recently
on the church's and his delayed reaction to priests preying on
innocent boys and girls. As a human being, he has some blunders too.
And, I'm glad he is too humble to admit it. You could follow his
example.
The church should focus
more on excommunicating thieves in the government than those
responsible individuals who are trying their best to make sure that
they can take good care of their children. That the role of parents
is not simply to procreate but to create an atmosphere where their
child/children can have a quality of life.
Rather than focus its eyes
on what's happening inside the bedrooms of couples, can the church
focus its attention on making the life of its ordinary parishioners
bearable? Can the church distribute its vast "friar lands"
landholdings for distribution? Can the church purge its ranks of
predator priests and abusive nuns?
Only when the church sets
its eyes on what matters can the church really matter. Otherwise, a
purer and smaller church Mr. Llera is envisioning will only be a
church fit for him and him alone.
By the way, the biblical
injunction to "Go and multiply" as falsely interpreted by the
biblical zealots like Mr. Llera is taken from Gen. 1:22. The very
same verse actually did not just command the earliest inhabitants of
the earth to go forth and multiply but also be fruitful. Being
fruitful means more than merely reproducing human beings but being
productive and useful member of the human race. And, since most of
your priests and nuns have vowed to be celibate, are they then not
following the biblical command to "go and multiply"?

A Conference on the
Impacts and Women’s Responses to the Economic and Climate Crises and
War
July 19-21, 2010
Baguio City, Philippines
The conference was
participated by the different countries, the Philippines, India,
Nepal, Iraq, China, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Timor Leste, Bangladesh,
Nepal, and Indonesia.
It was organized by Asia
Pacific Research Network, Gabriela, Asia Pacific Forum on Women and
Development and Asian Rural Women’s Coalition. With the partnership
of Innabuyog, Plan International, Global Fund for Women, The
Primates World Relief and Development Fund and Karibu Foundation.
Here’s the copy of the
speech I presented during the conference. The speech is all about
the impacts of economic crisis in the girl children.
Good
morning!
I am
Janice Tapil, 16 years old, from the Visayas Coalition of Children’s
Association in the Philippines. We are here to share with you the
crises experienced by girl children from the provinces of Masbate,
Mindoro and Samar and how we continuously cope from these.
Our
experiences of crises are connected to your experiences. As the
economic crisis worsen and their children are forced to work and
ended up as a victim of child trafficking.
These
are our stories as well as our classmates, friends and neighbours.
Story 1
Liza is the 2nd of 4 siblings. Her father is a fisherman and her
mother manages the household. Walking home from school one day, her
friends told her that there is a high paying job waiting for her in
Angeles City. Her parents allowed her to go, setting aside her
studies. She was then intercepted and rescued on her way to Angeles
City. And now she’s back to school.
Story 2
Joy was sexually molested by her 3 brothers and her father. Joy’s
mother has physical disability and could not protect her. She then
stopped schooling and joined her aunt to look for employment in
Manila to help her mother and escape from the abuses at home. She
was employed as house helper but was molested by her employer. Joy
managed to escape from her employer, got help from the street and
was brought to a center for abused children where she learned her
rights
Story 3
When Carla was 13 years old, her father got sick. Her mother was
then forced to look foe a job to survive her four children and her
sick husband. She became a nanny caring for other’s children. With
her mother’s absence at home, Carla took over the role of her
mother- caring for her 2 younger siblings ang doing household chores
which affected her performance in school but she continued to do the
best she could maintaining being one of the top ten in her class.
Minda
is a Mangyan girl from Occidental Mindoro. When she was 5 years old,
her mother died while giving birth to her 4th child. When her father
remarried, she was adopted by her relatives who cared for her until
she finished elementary education. Minda went to a secondary school
for Indigenous People where she stayed with other Mangyans. Every
vacation come July and August, he wanted to help out in the field to
work so she can earn and save some money for her school needs.
These 4 stories showed how
girl children cope with the effects of economic crises. In spite of
these, we are very thankful that we were able to surpass because
there are those who listened and understood us and provided guidance
and care. We were able to draw strength from our friends who have
the same experiences like us.
We do not want that our
children will suffer the same fate. We call on you to create spaces
for girl children to be involved in developing new strategies in
overcoming crises.
And so, as you talk about
women resisting crisis, please remember that girl children have
specific issues that needs to be discussed and addressed too.
Thank you!

To broken-hearted Paul
Nelson:
I am so sorry to what
happened to your love life. While it is true that Ms. Radomes is a
scam bug, not all Catbaloganons or Samarnons or Filipinos are as
evil and cunning as she is. She is more of the exception than the
general rule. While I also is not in favor of mail-order-bride or
internet-order-bride schemes, I cannot blame most women doing that
route for obvious economic reasons. After all, how can we legislate
who and what to love? Personal choices, with equivalent
consequences, are abundant in a crazy democratic society as ours.
While you wanted to rely
on the internet as the source of your inspiration to be in love, my
suggestion is for you to be careful next time. Just like in your own
country, there are good and evil people. You have to be extra
careful in choosing who to trust. Do not be deceived by profile
pictures and empty promises from those scam bugs.
Lastly, do not denounce an
entire country or province or city or village for the act of one
single person. And rest assured that Ms. Radomes will find her
"karma" later on. That guy she thinks is rich might just be
collecting from social welfare in the US. Who knows?

Dear People of Catbalogan
It is with heavy heart I
write to you all. It is also sad for your city the subject matter.
Some of you know the people I am referring to some of you are
related to them.
This time last year I
asked a woman Mayona Radomes from your city to marry me. Everything
was fine with us until March when she started chatting to a richer
man. She told me she loved me but had to marry this other man
because he was going to put her through college and give her family
money.
In May she told me she was
no longer in contact with this man. And still wanted to marry me
next year. Suddenly her need for money doubled in the following
months. Then on the 2nd September she informed me she was going to
live with her brother in Manila to look for work. On the 5th
September she told me she was leaving next day.
Her phone as been switched
off since. I have been informed that she went to Manila to meet this
other man and already had her visa for going off with him. And that
she had been using me since May for as much money as she could get
off me. I have since discovered she told people she was meeting me
in Manila.
I am 100% certain her
family and some of her friends were aware of this and when talking
to me on the phone or online never mentioned it. All these people
claim to be good Catholics But they seem to have no morals and
allowed this to happen.
To quote Ann Franks “all
it takes for evil to win is for the good to do nothing.” There
actions reflect badly on your good city.
There is also the
consequences of her actions to me both emotionally and the heart
ache this is causing me.
Unfortunately it now seems
it is not uncommon for Filipino women to scam men from other
countries. These actions reflect badly on the Philippines in the
western world and make many people no longer wiling to trust
Filipinos. I accept that some westerners also scam Filipinos.
I have also emailed your
Vice-President asking if your new Government is intending doing
something about this practice.
Mayona Radomes address 9
Boao District Catbalogan Samar 6700.
I would like these people
to note Justice as got her wings on and she is coming to get you.
To the good people of
Catbalogan the actions of these few people are there’s and only
there’s. May god smile down and bless your good city.

To all Samarnon,
I announced in this forum
subsequently inviting everyone to our barrio fiesta in Guinsorongan
last August 21, 2010, being its Hermano Mayor. I was personally
assisted by my son Basilio III who went me to the province to ensure
its sucess. Brenda, Winnie, Bobby, Butch and Maymertz helped me and
my wife financially, and with their prayers. Ehmilly and her
daughter Marille were also with us in Samar.
The success was made
possible through the efforts of my wife, her siblings Joan, Norma
who is a successful businesswoman in Cebu, her brother Bebot and
wife Fee who took control of the kitchen and the receiving area and
of course the partner of my son Basilio III, Ayee who decorated the
church and the receiving area of our house, to all of you thank so
very much. BTW Annie & wife Gunding brought with them to Samar a
complete set of band who imparted their expertise in the field of
music, they too were part of my entourage.
The only glitch however
during my six (6) days journey to the province is about the eye sore
which will surely have its effect on the provinces TOURISM. My
goodness, the people of Guinsorongan dump their waste through the
sea, I am pretty sure all the barangays along the coast line throw
their waste to the sea because the dump truck that collects the
garbage is like a tool of a magician, now you see, now you dont, and
most of the time you dont see them so the populace throw their
garbage to the sea. What is disheartening however, is the presence
of floating "T" in the resort area of Guinsorongan. We did not swim
at the coast line fronting Brgy. Guinsorongan because it is not only
the "T" that floats it includes the garbage of the entire barangay.
Guinsorongan Brgy Captain PICSON please do something to remedy the
situation.
Mayor Tekwa Uy please do
something about the garbage at the bay area. The deepness of the
Samar sea specifically Maqueda bay is full of plastics and other
garbage that poisons the sea. The entire Samar sea is already
polluted all because of the populace along the Samar coast line
especially Maqueda bay who throw their garbage wantonly to the sea.
Mayor Tekwa Uy please do something to protect the environment
particularly the sea of Catbalogan where our fishermen gets their
daily bread.
Mayor Tekwa I have some
recommendations for you:
1. Stop the proliferation
of the numbers game, instead concentrate in protecting the sea of
Samar.
2. Allot half of you
budget in constructing water shield toilets in all the barangays of
the municipality of Catbalogan.
3. Assign Health Workers
to the barangays especially those leaving along the coast line,
ensure the construction of the water shield toilet in each household
of the barangay.
4. Penalize those who will
depicate along the coast line with hefty amount or you can require
the violator who can't afford to pay the fine to undergo community
service by letting them construct the water shield toilet
themselves.
5. Consider Brgy
Guinsorongan as you pilot project being a thickly populated area
along the coast line not to mention that the oldest resort is found
in there and is very accessible from the capital.
6. Let the violators clean
the coastline, also penalize those who will throw their garbage to
the sea and cite them for anti littering. Require them to clean the
coastline of Brgy Guinsorongan for 1 week for the lst offense, 2
weeks for the 2nd offense and imprisonment for the 3rd offense.
PAGKA UROSA NA KITA HIN
PAG PROTIHER HITON ATON ENVIRONMENT HILABI NA GUD AN ATON KADAGATAN
NGA GUIN TITIKANGAN HAN PANGINABUHI HAN ATON MGA MANDARAGAT.

Mr JJ Russo. Your
statements about WHO is supporting Whom in Samar are 100 percent on
the mark. I have been first hand witness to it since Nov of 1977.
Nothing changes yet, every comment I see here re-enforces that
sympathy. You just indirectly reenforced that sympathy in your post
as do the voters that keep putting the people in government in a
position to be sympathizers themselves. Nothing you stated changes
the real issue and it will not change in anyones' lifetime that is
reading this message today. It really is sad.
This is MY HOME. My making
light of the over 40 years of useless bloodshed right in my own back
yard in fact irritates many. It irritates me that people tolerate
it, sympathize with it or support it in any way, shape, fashion or
form. Have we seen any direct human capital improvements or
investments for anyone as a result of it? NO! Since the inception of
the Philippine CPP there has not been anything they did that has
generally advanced the well being of the Masa! It has cost billions
of pesos, and delayed infrastructure enhancement and or development
but, has done not one positive thing for the people. It does get
life insurance policy endowment payments made to the families of the
deceased possessing a life insurance policy because Samar has not
been declared a war zone officially.
Again it is a horribly sad
sad situation that will never change. I speak in the light that I
live in... the light of the local chaos that every one tolerates, is
afraid to speak up about, or do anything concrete to prevent the
bloodshed. When you often bury good friends on both sides of the
issue something is horribly wrong. All of them died for the
privilege of saying I supported this side or that side but no one
won and no one will ever win. The bottom line is every time someone
dies we all lose and we have been losing for over 40 years.

I think Kelguy using his
pen name, or pseudonym, pretends to exercise his democratic rights
by expressing his opinion, and yet accuses a newspaper of becoming a
mouthpiece of the communist movement. Every neutral and sensible
newspaper should provide a democratic voice for everyone, either
from the Left or the Right.
Mr. Kelguy always discuss
national issues in relation to local issues in every writing he
makes in this forum. I might as well point out to him one important
issue in investigative journalism. Why is it that the communist
group is very active in Samar? Where do they get their resources? I
can give you an idea, Mr. Kelguy. Do you know that one political
dynasty in Samar is good in playing footsie with both sides of the
fence? Did you not hear the rumour about the head of this political
dynasty giving financial support to the communist movement from her
ill-gotten wealth? I think you should look into that before accusing
this newspaper of also getting financial support from this political
dynasty next time you will read about favorable news about them.
This political dynasty is a multi-headed hydra. It also has many
colors, from green to orange, and maybe yellow next time, if the
criminal cases against her, will not progress. And of course, for
the new commanding general, Gen Chan, I hope he can look into this
without becoming political about it. Anyway, he is optimistic he can
wipe out the communist movement in 2 years time. How the hell he
will do that out of the 40 years the communist movement has been in
existence, is in itself another military strategy to reckon with.
Let us learn from the past. As long as the communist movt have
grassroots and political support from opportunistic elements in
politics, it will continue to exist.
For now Mr Kelguy, use a
better language when discussing complex issues.
Regards,
JJ
Russo

Rex B Cool of CA. In
reference to your confusion. I will say that you are not alone in
that confusion. What other organization in the country can legally
call for the death of anyone in print media and NOT be arrested? We
just lost 8 peace officers in Samar to these same people and it was
like water off a ducks back... just another day in Samar. NO ONE
CARES. Hence my insistence that those who print media with such
language are in fact sympathizers. That would include Philippine
Star, Bulatlat, Manila Standard, Abante, Manila Bulletin, The
Freeman and Philippine Revolution.net add so many others here...et
al. It is nothing short of acts tolerated treason. I.e selective
enforcement of the law. If we were to call for anyone to suffer
fatality we would be held accountable. It is your confused line of
thinking along with thousands of other government representatives
and citizens that have the Philippines right where are today... in a
"lime light" that no one can be proud of.
This statement: Thus
the NPA is defending the people and delivering the message to the
Aquino regime that Oplan Bantay Laya and any other plan of fascist
state terrorism will be defeated. The NPA will be launching even
more tactical offensives in fighting to strategically raise the
level of the people's war in the next five years."
No matter how you spin it
indirectly says..... "We the CPP are going to keep on killing
Filipinos." Pick a side people are going to die. I am all for
freedom of the press.... call it censure or what ever you want to
call it. This is totally unacceptable and should never be allowed to
be printed legally in the manner presented above. When your calling
for a WAR (the peoples war) on the homeland Philippine soil it is
treason defined as "the offense of attempting by overt acts to
overthrow the government of the state to which the offender owes
allegiance or to kill or personally injure the sovereign or the
sovereign's family and inciting sedition defined as "incitement of
resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority" yet, no one
is held accountable for same.

Kelguy,
You are talking on deaf
ears my friend. They do not care.
It is so sad that this has
been going on for so long and not one positive thing has come out of
this. NONE.
I have tried to understand
why this continues to go on. The main reason for this to continue
for another 50 plus years is that those in these groups want
corruption to fill their pockets. They like the power they have over
those that can not defend themselves. Such cowards to treat their
own country men like this.
If anyone on here who
supports these groups, can show us one project that has come out of
this that was positive, please do.
I have heard this before
and I am such a believer now. I heard this from a Filipino. He said
that Filipinos look at life cheaply. They will take a life without
even thinking about it. They look at others for whom may not be part
of their way of thinking as animals that should be killed.
The Philippines will NEVER
grow up or change its attitudes. It will always be looked at as a
poor third world country that has no clue on how to change and grow
for the better. It will continue to fail in caring for its people
from providing good education and medical care to feeding them.
I wonder what those famous
Filipinos think about how their country has progress since they
passed away. I bet they are turning in their graves.

I'm getting confused here.
If by publishing of Samar
News about the CPP/NPA/NDF press release makes Samar News.com as a
CPP/NPA/NDF sympathizer then the Manila Bulletin, Philippine Daily
Inquirer and other daily papers are CPP/NPA/NDF sympathizer too. We
could read once in a while some press releases about CPP/NPA/NDF
from these newspapers.
In a democratic country,
the freedom of the press and expression is highly observed.
Restricting what to print and not to print, what to say and not to
say is dictatorial and others may call it communistic.
Samar News is simply
democratic.
