Today, September 17 around 11 a.m., my news desk have received a text message from an unknown number who later described him/her as "Concerned Samarnon."

The text message sender wrote: "BREAKING NEWS: The Sandiganbayan has issued yesterday an Arrest Warrant order against Samar Governor Milagrosa Tan and 6 other provincial officials who was charged earlier by the Ombudsman of Graft and Corruption. The Bail was set to P240T each. Suspension will follow."

This again a breakthrough for those waiting an update for said cases and for the sake of Samar, I share this to you. This, however, needs to be verify.

It's not so surprising for Mr. Velasco to openly show his disappointment based on his recent travel experience from Calbiga to Calbayog. What a shame to our government officials and likewise to our elected officials who have done nothing but watch those roads go down like a backyard ditch.

Cathedral City in Palm Springs California to downtown L.A. is more or less the same travel distance between Tacloban to Calbayog. I can drive that distance in an hour and a half, but with road situation in Western Samar, I swear to God, it took us six hours to arrive Calbayog.  It was a horrible trip I won't take again.

If these concerned officials can't fix that part of the highway, how much more they can do to finish that construction on R. Magsaysay Blvd. in Calbayog? That has been left unfinished for a long time! What's happening with our hometown?

Samar's Highway:  The Road to Perdition! I suggest that we need to rename the Maharlika Highway portion in Samar as road to perdition. Perdition means hell. It is indeed like going to the realm of Satan when you are travelling in these roads. Apparently, the condition of the roads is a clear reflection of the kind of leaders we have in Samar. Metaphorically, Samar is becoming a hell with these leaders around. How can they continue receiving their salaries and fat bonuses without thinking about the bumpy-ride their constituents experience while travelling through the "grand sungkaan (or mancala)"?

How can investors take a serious look of considering Samar as an investment haven when all they see and experience is an agonizing roller-coaster ride that would definitely surpass that in Cedars Point, Ohio (where the world's tallest roller coaster is). I guess the non-Samarnon people traversing the road from Allen in Northern Samar to Calbiga in Samar or vice versa would be thinking that these strip of earth is indeed hell. They will love to get rid of us or leave us the quickest possible time. Will they ever come back to marvel at the great places in Samar? Hell no!

The failure of the leaders to make their case before Malacanang is an indication of their collective failure as representatives of the people. Maharlika Highway is national highway and definitely an important road network for the development of the country and its continued decay will not simply paralyze trade and commerce but will also affect the morale of the Samarenos.

While GMA is focusing of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway in the western section of the country, she should never forget the existing main thoroughfare that connected the archipelago. Ah, GMA is also busy buying votes against the impeachment and she is not keen on looking at Samarenos but only to the congressmen who could easily be bought with presidential largesse and concessions. The people will always be forgotten in this vicious cycle of political maneuverings.

Well, until we've found a solution, let's just bury those politicians in the mudholes of the road to perdition for the meantime (esp. in 2007 elections) and continue to rock the powers that be (sana matamaan man lang). Hopefully, matauhan din sila!

I am American and have ridden the bus from Manila to Catbalogan 3 times. Wow, as soon as I hit Allen its stick a pillow under my butt. Same with Catbalogan to Calbiga. No more, I now fly to Tacloban and swim to Catbalogan or Daram Island. I had an American friend and his Filipina wife come visit me last March on his motorcycle, they said never again. What a shame, such a nice new bus station in Catbalogan now too.

Does anyone know if their are any Egg farms around Catbalogan or if the eggs being sold come from Tacloban or Cebu???

As expensive as Manila is getting, probably be pretty good business to buy vegetables, fish and pork and truck it to Manila to sell. But, not with the roads the way they are. Other than the road, Samar is such a beautiful island with great, great people.

WOW, at last I saw comments from our concerned Samarnon brothers to touch on the roadway problem we face in Samar... What do you think about the reaction from our known listed officials when they are on the road to campaign for election? Do you think this mouthfull politicos will give us an answer by electing again, they have been sitting there for 2 -3 terms or 8-12 yrs but nothing had been accomplish in dealing with our Highways? What a shame!!!

I was recently been in Samar for a short vacation together with a business partner but to my surprised the road leading from Calbiga-Calbayog was the worst I ever seen and I was so ashamed to my friend about the situation of our roadways. He even joked that he will enjoy riding in the back of a bull than riding a vehicle....I Just hope that this official will not sit on their butt doing nothing and receiving tax payer money when they are supposed to formulate a solution for the betterment of Samar...
