Rizal's Last Farewell
Name: Jose Rizal
Address: Malolos, Bulacan
Email:
joser@hotmail.com
Telephone: 09921458770
Date: 01-16-09
This last farewell is a misnomer
since Rizal never wrote, as far as I know, a first or second or third
farewell. I just want to digress from the issue of proper or correct
translations of this work, literary or not.
Translations of written documents
are the functions of the translator's social and economic background, points
of view, historical perspective, etc. The original work almost always losses
its fundamental essence and meaning since no one can take the place of the
author who in this case existed in a different era and world. The translator
can only estimate but not duplicate the original intent of the writer. But
the writer and the translator can offer new insights to the subject or
content of the material in question.
Rizal's last farewell is open to
various interpretations so that there is no right or wrong version.

Mr. Jabaan's translation of
Rizal's immortal work is laborious and tedious yet amateurish. He fails to
achieve what every translator aims for with his every translation - a better
understanding of the original work.
Take his title which is a futile
exercise in the bombastic style. This could have simply been called "Urhi ko
nga Panarit" or "Katapusan ko nga Pagsarit" which appears simple and
understandable to present generations of readers. A translator should use
living language to resurrect a work that has been written in the past and
for another generation of readers. Who are the readers of Mr. Jabaan's
translation? Surely, not the now generation nor the immediate past
generation.
The terms he employed in his
translations rightfully belong to a bygone era of erudite educated
peninsulares. Instead of bringing to life the immortal imagery of Rizal's
patriotic repartee, Mr. Jabaan has successfully reneged every attempt of
poets and literary translators worth their salt to endear literary
traditions to the public reader. Instead of dreaming in becoming the
official translator of literary works into Waray or Binisaya, Mr. Jabaan
should enrol in a legitimate class in Translation 101 and not just attend
seminars and conferences (intended for frustrated writers I presume) or be a
disciple of established local writers/translators such as Estrella Maqueda,
Charo Nabong Cabardo, Connie Sison, Pet Labro, Santiago Figueroa,
Themestocles Zosa, Tim Montes, Milky Muncada, Butch Casurao, Jonas Lim, etc.
so he may know what he has missed!

Good day to Atty. Kathrina R.
Castillo, Secretary General of KATUNGOD-SB. I am curious about your
statement "accompanied by arrests, detentions, interrogations, torture,
illegal search of houses and killing a farmer..."
If this allegations are truth, not
just a mere propaganda of yours, kindly bring this into a proper forum. Diba
attorney ka? Sino man ini sira nga mga parag-uma nga gin patay? gin torture?
gin dakop ngan gin preso san mga sundalo? paki-post man dinhi san ngaran

witnesses.
Anu an imo pitad para matagan ini
sin bulig adton imo sinisiring nga mga biktima? tubtub la ba pagsurat sin
press statement? para mahimo la nga propaganda?
By the way, sano kaman

I am also in crusade against human
rights violators, however the press statement is so biased bcoz there was no
thorough investigation done by the writer on how the incident happened
before condemning the authority in the ground.
My question is do you know the
background of the incident? Did you condemn the NPA when they tied up Mr.
Cabarles in front of his terrified wife and children in Blanca Aurora? Did
you condemn the NPA when they finish off for mercy killing of their 2
wounded comrades bcoz they are pursued by the authorities para walang makuha
na impormasyon pinatay nalang nila? Please help the innocent people victims
of NPA inhuman acts, condemn the NPA too for human rights violation in San
Jorge and San Jose de Buan, I’m with you.

Well explained and very agitating

What is your purpose? call on the

violations of human rights done by state agents? How about the godless NPA

These are just a few.
Now the question is, did the
KATUNGOD-SB KARAPATAN condemn this inhumane and barbaric act of the New
Peoples Army?
If the KATUNGOD-SB will not
strongly condemns the atrocities committed by the New People’s Army that is
a crystal clear that they are alliance of the New People's Army because the
propaganda of NPA is also a propaganda of KATUNGOD-SB and other militant
organization. As Jose Maria Sison says, Bayan Muna and other militant
organization as a front organization of the CPP/NPA/NDF.
Katungod Sinirangan Bisayas, the
Regional Alliance for the Advancement of Peoples’ Rights, please condemn in
the strongest possible terms these state-sponsored terrorist acts by
elements of the New People's Army.

commitment to address the global challenge of climate change.
The European Union has long been
in the lead in international efforts to cope with climate change and global
warming. Ambassador MacDonald said that this photo contest aims to help draw
public attention to the challenge of climate change, and to the need for
global and local action to address this issue, and to protect the futures of
generations to come.
Mr. Jimmy Domingo, Project

photojournalists and enthusiasts to use the power of the images to combat
climate change.
An exhibition of the winning and

Dire kita andam, we take for granted the law of nature. And sometimes, we
blame others or God from our weaknesses. Waray kita guin himo before the
Typoon, or any calamities. We are not ready, we always are not ready. Kadam
an ha aton irignom an pina orog. Why blame God, when the weakness is on us.
Please pray and do your thing, help each other to build the future. We need
to start uniting and building our protections against the law of nature and
against the selfishness and greed of man. In God I trust, we can do this.
Love and Peace.
We can build the future. Kun dire
kita sin-o man? We need to build a community center a multi purpose center,
nga diin kita puede ma protectahan, in any calamities and needs. Bag-o
umabot an bagyo, puede kita mag evacuete ha center and supply should be
enough for the people to stay up to the time that the calamites or typhoon
is gone. Madali ha yakan, pero makuri himuon, kon waray magkikiwa ngan damo
an pilosopo, nga aw anon. Nasa aton an solosyon waray sa iba. Ngan kon
natudlok ka ha iba an tulo nga tudlo mo nabalik ngahaw ha imo. Amo la unta
makabulig ine nga akon pan waydong. An iyo ubos nga sangkay.

Update on Guiuan
Airport??

In your news dated May 15, 2008
that says "PGMA’S SONA project, the Guiuan airport rehabilitation now
ongoing "appears to be misleading because anyone who hails from Guiuan can
attest that there is no ongoing construction nor related works or activities
going-on on said project.
It is also worthwhile to note that
the PIA news dated 5/18/08 at
http://www.pia.gov.ph/default.asp?m=12&r=&y=&mo=&fi=p080518.htm&no=04
has revealed millions of pesos have been allocated and spent for the project
("P10 Million and P15 Million was allocated in 2006 and 2007") and "P70
Million programmed for 2008" to be released to complete the job.
Please correct this report. Why
not inspect the site and see for yourself first hand information if there
really is a project going-on at Guiuan airport.
We were in Guiuan this Dec 2007,
and apparently no such activities can be observed in or around Guiuan
vicinity, much less at the main site itself.
Is this worth reporting to the
Ombudsman instead?
