Once a Samarnon, always a
Samarnon. And what makes me one? I was born in Samar and a product
of Samar National School Batch 1997.
There are maybe a lot of
things to highlight about myself being a Samarnon but please allow
me to share the following short story that will hopefully reach to
our Catbaloganons and Samarnons of pride.
A Call to my Fellow
Samarnon. Filipinos. One Vote. Big Pride
I am one of the
contestants for the Style MOEment competition sponsored by one of
the big malls in the United Arab Emirates, named Mall of the
Emirates (MOE). The competition is a search for the most stylish and
fashionable person in the UAE. Only one winner will be chosen from
the contestants of different nationalities (Europeans, Americans,
Asians, Arabs, Africans, etc.). The entry photo of the contestant
that will garner the highest number of votes before 12 March 2011 on
FACEBOOK - Style MOEment page will be the winner. The winner’s story
will be featured on print, TV and other forms of Fashion ads. It is
a promotional tool for Mall of the Emirates and its stores so
popularity is the key tool to help win the contestants.
This is my very first time
to join a competition that is a perfect venue to express my
innermost passion of style. I never thought that the fashion tidbits
I had only in mind will remain to be just a mere thought with no
chance of showing to the world where creativity and real art is a
tangible beauty that everyone can appreciate.
This competition has
opened an opportunity for me to realize my self-worth and
self-confidence that I was doubtful and almost believe I never had.
Joining this competition has indeed helped me changed that
perception. That race, ethnicities, caste or skin color will not be
a reason to hinder one’s dream to achieve and to excel what she’s
best at. To join a competition like this is a manifestation that I
am, a Filipina, can be at par to compete with other nationalities of
the best stylish known ever from each different group.
No one has influenced me
to join this competition. It is a sole decision and call to
represent my Race to achieve something that will make the Filipino
Race especially in the United Arab Emirates be proud of. This
challenge will be a little thing to consider for myself but the
pride and recognition that will identify me as a Filipino is an
accomplishment for the whole Filipino community.
Let’s stand for that
Pride! Please join me on this battle and challenge my opponents
through your VOTES. It will only take a minute to cast your vote but
the fact that you became an instrument to make a difference for your
fellowmen is a PRIDE that will always remain in the hearts of the
Filipinos for generations.
To continue on the story,
please go to

Thank you and Mabuhay ka
Samar!

May-ada ako halipot nga
istorya han nag-aaram pa ako: There were these women who were
weeping silently and were standing from a distance while another
group of men ostensibly aides and associates of the departed leader
were in a quandary and at a loss as to where they must bury their
beloved leader who had just died. The conversation and argument of
these men went more or less like this: "Since he, (referring to the
departed leader) was truly a great man to us and to his people we
must bury him next to the late Pres. Charles De Gaulle". (the hero
of the French resistance during the last world war) "No,no", replied
in protest by the another aide, "He is more of a hero than De
Gaulle, he must be entered instead at Arlington Memorial (in USA)
next to Pres. Kennedy and that would be a fitting tribute from us
and the people of this country. "No way, you are making a big
mistake" blurted by another aide."Let us bury him next to Winston
Churchill of Great Britain". The argument seemed to have carried on
without any one agreeing to any of these suggestions when a strong
voice from behind was heard. "Since he is the most supreme and
greatest man that we know of, let us bury him instead next to Jesus
Christ". But as soon as these last words was uttered, the women who
were listening to these conversations and arguments started to cry
hysterically. "See, even these women who are not part of our group
are showing their love and symphaty to our dear beloved leader. "But
if I may ask, said the leader of this group of men, "You do love and
adore our leader that is the reason why you are crying this hard".
"No, no, no, cried all the women in unison, it's not like that, if
you go on with your plan to bury your leader next to Jesus Christ,
after 3 days he will rise again from the dead like in the
scriptures, AT BABALIK SIYA SA PILIPINAS PARA PAHIRAPAN NA NAMAN ANG
LAHAT NG PILIPINO!!!

To Mayor Tekwa Uy,
Please do not put a
building on top of the one kind statue of Rizal, it can be
considered as a cultural heritage unique to Catbalogan Samar. The
port area is more ideal for that kind of a building project to
market the Bay not in the few open space that Catbalogan have. I
sincerely hope you reconsider the site for your project.

What are the positive
characters of Waraynon or Samarnon? Mabuligon, Friends Forever,
Boutan, Honest, hard worker, maupay humigugma, maduruto, maloloy-on.
Ano pa. Maisog, may words of honor. Organizado.
What are the negative
characters of Samarnon o waraynon? Parag inom, dire matatapuran,
napapalit sa election, madumot, buwaon, makalit, hudya. Kulang san
ideya kon dire hubog, hubog ngani maupay an mga plano. waray unity.
Crab mentality, aw-anon.
Ano nga aspito san aton
character an makusog nga dire nakakapauswag san aton kinabuhi? Is it
the opportunity? Or our character as a person? Damo ba an trabaho
san aton provincya nga puede maghatag hin maupay nga kinabuhi; para
han aton mga kinahanglan sa kinabuhi? Do we have boat making
industry? Do we have canning factory? Do we have railways around
Samar for transportation of our products and Tourism? Do we have
parks and Zoo that can give jobs? Why cant the government declare
our natural beauty such as caves and falls and beaches as natural
parks and must be protected and develop to create jobs?
What do we have? A
revolution? Militarization? Corrupt officials?
What do we have natural
resources, potential rice granaries Gandara and Northern Samar, and
Eastern Samar. Fishing grounds such as Maqueda Bays, farmland and
regulated logging potentials. Are we protecting it and developing
our potentials to create jobs? We have lots of tourist attractions
from caves, falls, beaches, that needs protection from our laws.
What are they doing as officials in our Land? Are we really
protecting our natural wealth Or somebody is taking it away from
Samar? Like Manicani Mining. Do we have hope and future as Samarnons.
Just questions? Pakiana
nga mabug-at ko batunon, kay waray ako kapas. Hain an iyo Gugma ha
Samar? Hain an iyo Gugma ha Samar? An limosan an mga pobre gugma ba
iton? They need jobs and livelihood. To have a dignified life dire
manlilimos san iyo hatag. Kon an akon Grammar dire maupay, basaha la
an akon pakiaana. Ngan paghimo san imo idea nga mas maupay san akon
susundon ko kon maupay. Pero kon fault finder kala, undang. ngan
puroko. Akon pakiaana, hain an Nahigugma han Samar? If you are
destroying and killing people of Samar? You don't love Samar, if you
are corrupt officials, definitely you are not for Samar. Where are
you lovers of Samar. The hope and the future, where are you?I am in
search of a true Samarnon..I can't find one, but I can see
many...where art daw...the end bahala kayo sa buhay ninyo. Proiblema

I got this from the
caption of a picture in the website: "BANNED BILLBOARD. Several
billboards of this type portraying road concreting project of Samar
Gov. Sharee Ann Tan and Vice-Gov. James Tan are on display in
several areas in the province for weeks now. The DILG ordered the
banning of names or initials and/or images or pictures of government
officials in billboards and signages of government programs,
projects and properties as per DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2010-101
dated September 23, 2010. Perhaps the governor, vice-governor and
DILG officials in Samar are ignorant of this law."
Poor and ignorant law
makers!!!.....they themselves are ignorant of the laws.....is it not
that they should be first educated about the laws? or they are just
very proud enough about the minimal things they are doing.....they
don't deserve such big billboards with their faces......the money of
such projects are not theirs…they are the people's....don't they
realize that?
On the other hand...it is
their duty to implements better projects in the province rather than
bulging their pockets with the people's money...

I am from Eastern Samar...
Nabasa ko an Speech ni Gob. Nicart... [State
of the Province Address (SOPA 2010) of Gov. Conrado B. Nicart, Jr.]
It's a pity that up to
now, the leaders in Eastern Samar had not seen the real problem in
that area.... What Estihanon needs is a sustainable livelihood
program... The governor kept on addressing Health Care program,
which is good... But he failed to address what the people of ES
really needs... And that is to have a sustainable living...
Instead of depending on
the outside help being provided by foreign communities, maybe it
would be better if the provincial government will look on developing
the province by creating jobs, to lessen the poverty... ES has a
very high potential in terms of tourism, only that never in one of
the past administrations had seen the potential of that place..... I
think it's about time that we take a serious look on that
potential....

A consultant came all the
way from Manila (December 29, 2010), visited the Dam at Pinipisakan
Falls, Bgy. San Isidro, for an evaluation with a plan to put up a
hydroelectric power plant in the area. Engr. Clarin a professional
electrical engineer, he is accompanied by Engr. Mendoza. The plant
capacity may reach up to 15MW. The minimum capacity by the investor
needs at least 10MW. An independent power producer (IPP) will visit
the area this March to finally see the capacity of the river. Las
Navas will join the consortium for project called Las Navas
Hydroelectric Power Company. See my facebook account to see some

Militarization in Samar
will not solve the problem of Samar. Samar needs development of
agriculture, fishing industry, tourism, transportation around Samar
such as train, more boats and etc. Well planned development of every
province. More school buildings with rest rooms and sports
facilities. Better infrastructures roads and bridges to interior
municipalities. There should be rule of law and enfocement of laws.
And lastly government must be transparent and honest to the people.
More communication and education of the people on every community
will help solve the problem.

BE INFORMED: THE TRUTH
WILL SET YOU FREE!
The phrase "be good for
goodness' sake" is meaningless unless we can define what "goodness"
is. For the believer, that is a relatively easy question to answer.
Goodness is measured by the extent to which man's behavior conforms
to the character and the will of his Creator. That is why the
Christian believes the Bible is an irreplaceable component of human
existence -- its revelation serves to guide us towards that divine
will.
But the atheist/humanist
has no such moral center...no fixed point of reference. They may
talk at length about the need to be "good," but in the final
analysis, their presuppositions fundamentally reject any concrete
basis for morality.
That is not to say that
anyone who is atheist or humanist is a murderous butcher ready to
pounce. Certainly there are a great number of nonbelievers who are
benevolent, caring and kind. But while the atheist points to these
upstanding godless citizens as proof of their theory that you can be
good simply for goodness sake, they conveniently ignore the cultural
foundations that taught those individuals good from bad.
As columnist Jeff Jacoby
observed, "In our culture, even the most passionate atheist cannot
help having been influenced by the Judeo-Christian worldview that
shaped Western civilization." Put another way, an atheist who boldly
touts his morality and decency is humorously doing so only by
appealing to the very Christian ethic they seek to denounce.
Though this conclusion is
inescapable, the pride inherent in humanist thought forbids them
from admitting it. Consequently, we are persistently treated to
their vapid musings that one must choose between religion and
reason.
But suggesting that reason
alone is sufficient to direct behavior is intellectually dishonest.
Human reason will always be guided by presuppositions. That is why
civilizations like ancient Rome found it reasonable to murder
handicapped children [and in this present age it is reasonable to
MURDER / BUTCHER / ABORT the UNBORN for reason of over population /
Planned Parenthood = RH BILL] while we in the Western world
[believers] find that to be abominable.
Jacoby noted that Roman
philosopher Seneca the Younger wrote, "'We drown even children who
at birth are weakly and abnormal,'...stressing that 'it is not anger
but reason'" that provides justification for such an act. This
horrific practice is the result of reason built upon a Godless
foundation. In contrast, AUTHENTIC BELIEVERS bears the fruits based
on a Christian ethic that teaches submission and obedience to a
transcendent Moral Authority.
That fact alone should
cause the atheist to pause as he jeeringly taunts believers with
signs proclaiming, "Merry X-mas." Creating a Christ-less holiday
season may seem like a worthy cause until you realize where it
leads. Civilizations torn free from the moorings of Moral Authority
are not the kind anyone -- even a fervent atheist -- would want to
live in. [Peter Heck]
Please do not use "Happy
holidays" in greeting people this season. This is the way the
anti-life, anti-family, homosexualist forces are trying to suppress
Christmas and Christ, and trying to remove God from the public
sphere. Always greet with "Merry Christmas." Christ after all is the
reason for the season. [Frank Padilla]

Sa mga kababayan kong
Pilipino
Ngayon lang uli ako
nagka-roon ng pagkaka-taon na makapag-sulat dito at sasaman-talahin
ko na ang pagkaka-taong ito. While the story about the acquittal of
the six persons who have been accused in the massacre of three (3)
members of the Visconde family is still 'burning hot' and fresh in
the minds of the people, let me bring this up here because I
consider this acquittal a 'national issue' that even us here in
Samar must be aware of its aftermath and implications.
We often hear the words 'hustisya'
when ever someone who has been aggrieved or has apparently been a
victim of injustice clamor for it (justice or in our vernacular
language 'hustisya') And more often than not that justice has been
elusive more so for those that does not have either the connection,
political power or money or all of them. The Visconde patriarch who
is alone and bitter at this very moment because of this outcome
could now belong to the long lists of people crying for 'hustisya'
in this country.
The only thing I know
about this 'hustisya' which is plentiful in this country (you don't
have to break your bone nor spend a fortune to seek and obtain
hustisya) is my next door neighbor who leaves her front door just
shortly before dark in a revealing tight dress with heavy make up to
do her rounds for the night - because she is a 'hustisya' (or
hostess siya for short).
