CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar  –  Oldest high school in the province, Samar National School just received the delivery of 50 Personal Computers (PC) from the Intel® Teach Program.

In a talk with SNS Principal Antonio Caveiro, the principal revealed that the PCs were delivered Monday.

Mr. Caveiro

Intel® Teach, said Caveiro is a non-government organization (NGO). Website information further revealed that Intel® Education Initiative in the Philippines strives to improve education for the emerging knowledge economy by catalyzing changes in the education system through collaboration with the government and private sector.

Intel, it said aims to nurture and develop 21st century skills such as digital literacy, critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration to help them thrive in the society and workplace of the future. Intel is committed to improving education today so that students are able to function in, and shape, the world ahead.

Caveiro added that there are only three schools in Samar given the program, his school and two other schools located in Calbayog City.

Samar National School will now have 70 PCs in the classroom. The earlier 20 PCs were given by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and are used in the TLE classes.

Mr. Caveiro said that he has created a Special Education (SPED) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department to manage the set of computers.

With the additional PCs, Caveiro is confident that the students’ achievement scores will improve.

In the past school year 2005-2006, SNS students scored only 31.56 but with the advent of Knowledge Channel and the PCs by DTI coupled with the school’s initiatives, scores rose to 75.5.

Samar National High School celebrated their centennial anniversary in 2003.

Today, with the PCs wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi), the challenge for Mr. Caveiro and his 157 teachers to uplift the learning skills of their 4,717 students would surely be addressed.
