Yangzon won Miss
Manaragat 2007 title

CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar
– This year’s beauty search of the City of Catbalogan is a special
and historical one. The Search for Miss Manaragat 2007 is not only a
search for the queen of the Manaragat Festival but a very important
quest for the first ever Miss Catbalogan City.
After a rigorous
search, Divine Yangzon, a 16-year old student at Samar State
University representing Barangay Guindapunan, was crowned as the Miss
Manaragat 2007, the first Miss Catbalogan City, on August 3 at the
Catbalogan City Plaza.
Miss Yangzon,
candidate number 9, who was obviously the favorite of the crowd,
bested nine other equally beautiful candidates representing the
different districts of Catbalogan City, to win the coveted crown.
The other winners were
candidate number 5 Miss Ester Repol, 18 years old student of the Samar
State University, representing Brgy. Muñoz was proclaimed as first
runner up while candidate number 10, Miss Carissa Lobigas, a 17 years
old Samar State University
student from San Francisco Street in the City, was proclaimed as the
second runner-up.
The Board of Judges is
composed of Board Member Luzviminda Nacario, Bayantel Account Manager
Vicente Melvin Labro Jr., businessman Mr. Stephen James Tan, Novelty
Store Manager Ms. Sheila Lim with Philippine Information Agency Region
8 Director Olive Tiu as the chairperson.
This year’s Miss
Manaragat 2007 Committee is composed of Ms. Stephany Uy-Tan as
chairperson, Mr. Ador Hurtado as the vice chairperson and Mr. Melvin
Bernate as managing director. The technical staff is composed of the
SSU College of Engineering staff headed by Engr. Ma.
Lourdes Amante.
Miss Yangzon will
represent Catbalogan City in the August 9 Search for Mutya han Samar
being held annually in connection with the celebration of Samar Day.
The festival in
Catbalogan used be the Mangirisda Festival. However, Mayor Coefredo T.
Uy, in consultation with the officials and the arts and culture sector
of the new City, decided to change it to Manaragat Festival as the
people of Catbalogan are not only engaged in catching fish but the
other bounties of the sea.
