All is set for
historic Leyte Gulf Landings commemoration

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte
– Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla informed that all is set for
the 63rd Anniversary of the historic Leyte Gulf Landings.
Governor Petilla said
that the activities sponsored by various groups from the government
and private sector have already been planned and just awaiting
implementation.
No less than Her
Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has been invited to
keynote the Commemorative Rites, Governor Petilla informed.
This year, the
Ambassador of Canada, His Excellency Robert Desjardins, the Ambassador
of Japan, His Excellency Makoto Katsura, the representatives of
Australia and the United States of America have already confirmed
their attendance to the Commemorative Program, Governor Petilla
informed the local media during a press conference held in his office
at the Provincial Capitol.
A Commemorative
Luncheon will be tendered by the Provincial Government of Leyte to the
very special guests, at the historic
CAP Building,
where the late General MacActhur stayed when he was in Tacloban.
A commemorative
luncheon for the World War II veterans will be tendered at the DPWH
Convention Hall at the Government Center, Palo, Leyte.
The Commemorative
civic military parade will be conducted at 2:00 o’clock in the
afternoon in the main streets of
Tacloban City.
The Assembly area is in front of the Capitol.
The civic military
parade will be highlighted by the three theme floats of the Province
of Leyte, the City Government of Tacloban and the Region Eight
Administrators League.
Special activities
such as the Agri-Aqua Fair, Consumer Fair and Pre-Christmas Fair, 2nd
Leyte Gulf Invitational Badminton tournament, medical and dental
missions for the veterans, and the search for the singing Driver, will
also add color to this year’s celebration with the theme “A Nation
that Remembers is a Nation at Peace.”
